IT’S ALL IN THE PLOT
London, 1894 — but not quite the version you remember. Holmes (or rather Helms) is a self-assured, self-proclaimed detective whose powers of deduction are... enthusiastic, if not exactly accurate. His long-suffering flat mate Westin attempts to maintain some shred of dignity as Helms barrels headfirst into a case of shifting and confusing mis-identifications. When Rosemary Hawthorne bursts through their door —dripping wet and fainting dramatically — she insists that Helms must find her missing brother. Mistaken identities, repeated fainting, seriously misguided detective work, and a suspicious amount of tea all collide in this rapid-fire farce.
AND SOME CHARACTERS
HELMS
Would very much like to be taken for a certain brilliant detective. An excessively confident Sherlock Holmes wannabe, he believes himself a genius detective. Loves theatrics, attention, and making deductions that are more creative (and self-serving) than accurate.
WESTIN
The detective's mostly loyal and very much abused friend. HELMS’S flat mate and the only person in the room with a shred of common sense. Exasperated, dry-witted, and often pulled into chaos, WESTIN spends most of the time catching fainting damsels and dodging creditors.
ROSEMARY
A dramatically emotional young woman who has weaponized fainting as a self-defense technique. She is earnest, romantic, and prone to melodrama. She arrives convinced that SOMEONE can find her missing brother, and manages to be both clueless and suspiciously clever.
EVELYN
The human embodiment of “act first, ask questions never” EVELYN is direct, commanding, and so dryly witty you might need a glass of water. Her take charge attitude and instant decision making often lead her into tricky situations as she doesn’t take the time to find out what is actually going on.
THE COLLECTOR
Cheerful, easily distracted, and about as clever as their favorite beating cosh, THE COLLECTOR is a Sherlock Holmes superfan. The enthusiasm is contagious, the logic not so much so.
THE POLICEMAN
Upright, uptight, and perpetually unimpressed, THE POLICEMAN suspects everyone of something and spends most of their stage time literally in a closet—possibly hiding.
